Denver Announces 2013 Women's Lacrosse Captains

DENVER-Seniors Jessica Gring (Baltimore, Md.), Kate Henrich (Lansdale, Pa.) and Kara Secora (Denver, Colo.) have been selected as captains for the 2013 University of Denver women's lacrosse team, head coach Liza Kelly announced today. All three captains started in each of Denver's 15 games last season, helping the Crimson and Gold to a 12-3 record.

"These three give us a balanced leadership style," Kelly said. "They lead by example on the field, they're strong academically and they're passionate about Denver lacrosse. They're demanding of their teammates, but they're also very supportive."

Gring made the All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Second Team last season, finishing the campaign third on the team with 18 caused turnovers.

Henrich received All-MPSF First Team and All-MPSF Tournament Team honors last year. The defender led the nation with 3.07 caused turnovers per game, breaking the DU single-season record with 46 caused turnovers.

Secora enters her second season as a Pioneer captain. She was named to her second-straight All-MPSF First Team in 2012, and led the conference with five game-winning goals. The redshirt senior finished second on the Pioneers in both shots and goals with 29 and 23, respectively.

Henrich, Secora and Gring will lead a Pioneer team that returns 19 players from last year's squad, including 10 starters.  Denver will close out its fall exhibition season when it takes on Colorado State Friday at 12 p.m. MT.
