DENVER - The University of Denver men's swimming and diving team will compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships this week. The swimming portion of the event will be held in Monterey Park, Calif., and will begin Wednesday, while the diving Championship will take place in Colorado Springs, Colo., and will begin Thursday. Both swimming and diving will conclude Saturday.
"We are looking forward to these championships with a different view point and focus this year," said head coach Brian Schrader. "We are looking forward to seeing what a higher level of competition will bring out in our performances. All of our seniors are here racing and they will provide a great level of experience and leadership, and we know we will get better as the meet goes on. I would point toward UNLV and BYU as favorites, but we will be in every event to final and challenge for wins."
Four Pioneers received conference weekly honors this season. Junior Kyle Milberg (Littleton, Colo.) was named MPSF Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week on two occasions, making him one of only two men's swimmers to receive the award more than once this season. Swimmers senior Robert Barrett (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and freshman Dylan Bunch (Boulder City, Nev.), and sophomore diver Ross Edfort (Somerset, N.J.) earned the award once each.
DU is coming off back-to-back Sun Belt Conference Championships, and will be looking to notch its third-straight conference title this season. The Denver men last saw action when it hosted the inaugural Boone Eliminator on Feb. 2, defeating Air Force 156-154.
The Pioneer women's team will compete in the Western Athletic Conference Championships Feb. 27-March 1 in San Antonio, Texas.
