Freshmen Emily Novotny (Folsom, Calif.) and Morgan Tolman (Northridge, Calif.) shared their experience from the floor during last Saturday's Burnsley Invitational. The freshman duo's blog post is below.
This past weekend was one of the team's favorites, the Link to Pink Burnsley Invitational meet, in honor of breast cancer and breast cancer survivor Joy Burns. It was a great start to our meet by walking into our locker room that was filled with pink balloons and decorations everywhere. We would like to give a special thanks to Castle Rock Gymnastics for the awesome décor and inspirational notes!
In this last meet, we competed against Air Force Academy, North Carolina State, and San Jose State. This was the first quad meet of the season, so we expected to have a lot of energy flowing throughout Hamilton Gymnasium. Even with the three other teams, our team did an excellent job staying within our bubble and using the energy created by our awesome fans.
We won the Burnsley Invitational with an overall score of a 196.050. This is not the only great thing that we accomplished that night- We were able to hit 28-for-28 routines and junior Jorie Hall did a beautiful floor routine and hit a career high of a 9.900. Sophomore Ellese Sakai-Hart also hit a career high on floor with a 9.85. Lastly, junior Melodie Pulgarin Linero had a great meet and won the all-around title. It was very inspiring for us all to watch!
Thanks to everyone who came out to support the team! We are headed back into the gym to get in some good training before we head to Southern Utah this weekend. Hope to see you all at our next home meet, February 23, against Utah State and Rutgers.
