DENVER - The University of Denver women's golf team will host the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate tournament this weekend, beginning Friday at the scenic Highlands Ranch Golf Club.
It will be the Pioneers third tournament of the season and expectations are high after a solid third place showing in the Golfweek Conference Challenge tournament last month in Wolcott, Colorado.
"All of our players and coaches are excited for this tournament," said DU women's head coach Lindsay Kuhle. "Last time we hosted this tournament at Highlands Ranch was in 2009 so it's been five years and we're just excited to bring the tournament back to Highlands Ranch at our home golf course."
In addition to Denver, Kansas State and Kansas will participate and all three teams are ranked in the Top 50. DU is 24th in the country, K-State is 39th and Kansas is 46th. Also participating will be Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona, Wyoming, Nebraska, Long Beach State, Georgetown, North Dakota, North Dakota State and Montana State.
"It's a pretty competitive field," said Kuhle.
The Pioneers lineup is set for this weekend with sophomore Mariell Bruun, senior Rachael Watton, junior Isabel Southard, freshman Aleana Groenhout and sophomore Jessica Carty.
The practice round is slated for Thursday. The tournament begins the next day with single rounds on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tee times each morning begin at 8:30. Admission to the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate is free.
