INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Denver men's soccer team will travel to Corvallis, Ore., to take on Oregon State in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament on Thursday at a time TBA. Thursday's winner will advance to the second round on Sunday for a date with Creighton in Omaha, Neb.
Denver is 2-0 all-time against Oregon State with the previous two meetings coming in 1999 and 2006.
Monday's bid is Denver's fifth in its history (1970, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014).
The Pioneers defeated Western Illinois in the Summit League Final for the second-consecutive campaign to earn the program's third automatic bid into the national tournament.
Head coach Bobby Muuss, now in his eighth season at the helm, has led the DU program to back-to-back NCAA bids for the first time in program history. Denver's NCAA bid is also its fourth since 2008 (all under Muuss). Denver, now 11-7-1 on the season, has reached double digit wins for the third-consecutive campaign, and for the fifth time under Muuss.
Sophomore super-sub Eric Kronenberg (Boulder, Colo.) leads Denver with 15 points on seven goals and an assist, while starting striker Kosta Kordistos (Lippstadt, Germany) is just a point behind with five goals and four helpers. Senior transfer Teddy Mullin (Durham, N.C.) is second on the team with six goals, and senior midfielder Brian Hoyt (Tempe, Ariz.) rounds out Denver's double-digit point getters with 11 points on five goals and an assist.
Denver's captain and centerback Taylor Hunter (Aurora, Colo.) was named the Summit League Tournament MVP on Sunday, and was joined on the Summit League All-Tournament Team by sophomore midfielder Sam Hamilton (Evergreen, Colo.), Mullin and Kordistos.
