Oct. 7, 2015

DENVER - The University of Denver hockey program has nine former student-athletes on NHL opening day rosters, after each team in the league was required to submit its final 23-man roster by 3 p.m. (MT) on Tuesday afternoon.

Beau Bennett (Pittsburgh), Tyler Bozak (Toronto), Matt Carle (Tampa Bay), Joe Colborne (Calgary), Matt Donovan (Buffalo Sabres), Nick Shore (Los Angeles), Paul Stastny (St. Louis), Patrick Wiercioch (Ottawa) and Jason Zucker (Minnesota) all appeared on their team's respective opening day rosters.

The Pioneers return to the ice on October 9 for their 2015-16 regular season opener against Air Force at 7:05 p.m. (MT) at Clune Arena. DU will then host Air Force the following night at 7:06 p.m. at Magness Arena.

Head Coach Jim Montgomery enters his third season in charge of the team after securing the program's seventh-straight NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship Tournament berth last March and making it to the `Elite Eight' for the first time since 2011. The Pioneers went 24-14-2 last season (13-10-1-1 NCHC) and are ranked second in the NCHC pre-season media poll heading into this year.

The team appeared in the Top 10 on both major national NCAA Division I polls in advance of the 2015-16 regular season, coming in at No. 5 on the Poll and No. 6 on the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. Denver was ranked No. 1 on a pair of unofficial polls - that of ESPN broadcaster John Buccigross as well as popular hockey blog Along the Boards. The Pios were also ranked No. 2 in the nation by College Hockey News.

Season tickets to the Pioneer hockey team's 2015-16 campaign are currently available for purchase. Select mini-plans are also available. Information on all DU Hockey ticketing options can be obtained by calling the Daniel L. Ritchie Center Box Office at (303) 871-2336.
