[7/8] PIONEERS WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE ON THE ROAD THIS WEEKEND

March 4, 2015

After routing the Miami RedHawks by a score of 6-2 in their final home game of the regular season this past Saturday, the DU Pioneers (19-11-2, 12-9-1-1) wrap up the road portion of their 2014-15 schedule this weekend with a pair of games at St. Cloud, Minnesota's Brooks Center against the SCSU Huskies (15-16-1, 10-11-1-0 NCHC). Friday's game will begin at 7:08pm MT and be broadcast live on the CBS Sports Network as well as on ESPN Denver 105.5 FM. Saturday's contest has a scheduled puck drop of 6:07pm and will air on The Zone 1600 AM as well as both PioneerVision and NCHC TV (PPV).

Denver swept St. Cloud State at Magness Arena earlier this season, skating to a 3-1 win on January 16 and capturing a 4-1 victory the following night. Senior Pios blueliner and Hobey Baker Award candidate Joey LaLeggia tallied a team-high 2G-2A-4P that weekend and has now recorded 5G-6A-11P in 12 career games versus the Huskies. LaLeggia enters Friday's game at the Brooks Center on a seven-game point streak, during which he's registered 3G-10A-13P.

Freshman RW Danton Heinen also enters this weekend's action on a seven-game point streak (5G-10A-15P) while sophomore LW Trevor Moore is on a six-game point streak of his own (7G-6A-13P). Heinen, Moore and LaLeggia are currently ranked 1-2-3 in the NCHC Scoring Race while Moore and Heinen's center, senior Daniel Doremus, leads the conference in plus/minus rating with a mark of +21.

Denver presently resides in fourth place in the NCHC Standings, two points up on fifth-place UMD and one point behind third-place UNO. The top four teams in the conference at season's end will earn home ice advantage in the NCHC quarterfinals.

"We control our own destiny heading into the final weekend of the regular season," head coach Jim Montgomery says. "We know if we take care of business versus St. Cloud State, we'll be at Magness Arena for the first round of the playoffs, which is great motivation for us heading into Friday night."

This weekend's two-game series will feature the top two power play units in the NCHC, as SCSU leads the conference with a PP% of 23.7 while DU ranks second with a mark of 23.0. The Pioneers also boast the NCHC's second-best penalty killing unit (83.6%) this season while the Huskies have been the conference's second-worst team in terms of PK% in 2014-15 with a mark of 78.8.

In the event that Denver finishes among the NCHC's top four regular season teams, tickets to all three games of Round 1 of the NCHC Playoffs (Mar. 13-15) will go on sale at 9:00am on Sunday morning at denverpioneers.com/tickets. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Daniel L. Ritchie Box Office (303-871-2336) on Monday, also at 9:00am. This year's Frozen Faceoff will be played at Minneapolis' Target Center on Mar. 20/21 and feature the four winners of the NCHC's quarterfinals.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR SEASON TICKET HOLDERS: Full Season Ticket Holders should already have tickets for all three Round 1 games in their possession. Friday and Saturday Night Ticket Package holders should also already have tickets for their respective night. In the event that the Pioneers play their NCHC quarterfinal series on the road, refunds will be issued within the next few weeks.
