Denver Selected to Minneapolis Regional

March 21, 2016

DENVER ââ'¬" The No. 11 University of Denver women's gymnastics team will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., as a No. 2 seed for NCAA Regionals on April 2, the NCAA announced during its annual selection show on Monday. Joining Denver will be No. 2 Florida, host team No. 16 Minnesota, No. 20 Missouri, Ohio State and BYU.

This will be DU's 18th consecutive NCAA Regionals appearance, qualifying in each of head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart's seasons with the team. At April 2's competition, the Pioneers will seek to secure a trip to the NCAA National Championships for the fourth time in school history and first time since 2008.

DU, in its first season as an affiliate member of the Big 12 Conference, finished second at Saturday's Big 12 Championships, improving the team's RQS to 196.725, the second highest RQS in team history.

In 2015, Denver competed at the Ames Regional as a No. 3 seed, finishing third with a 195.950. Senior Nina McGee (Cincinnati, Ohio) tied for second in the all-around to advance to her first NCAA National Championships, where she would tie for second on floor and finish 11th in the all-around.

The 2016 NCAA National Championships will be held April 15-16 at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas, for the second straight year. The top two finishing teams at each of the six NCAA Regionals meets will advance to Nationals, as well as the event winners and the top two all-around competitors not on a qualifying team.
