ALBUQUERQUE - The University of Denver men's golf team turned in a solid performance at the Tucker Invitational on Saturday, posting a 10-over 298 to close in 10th place at the tournament. The Pioneers' 298 matched their total from round one yesterday.
Par for the 7,555-yard course was 72 at the UNM Championship South Course.
Brigham Young took home the team title, rising up from third to go 1-under on the day, putting its total at 9-over for the 54-hole event, four strokes ahead of Arizona.
"Great round for Chris Korte today," head coach Erik Billinger said. "The wind came up again and we finished on the tougher holes into the wind and lost some shots coming in. Overall, lots of positives from this week. We didn't score as well as we played, sometimes that is how this game goes.
"I'm excited about our team and the entire year. Time to get prepared for the Paintbrush Invitational in two weeks."
Senior Chris Korte had his best round of the tournament, going 2-under on Saturday morning en route to his second straight 11th-place finish this year. The former Regis standout got stronger with each passing round, going 76, 73 and 70 for the two-day event.
Eric Hagen tied for 27th, tying his best finish at DU. The sophomore fired a 2-over 74 in his final round of action.
Isaac Petersilie wrapped up his day in a tie for 56th.
Jake Kelley ended the day tied for 61st with a 5-over 77.
Roy Kang tied for 82nd.
Freshman John Sand, competing as an individual, had a tough outing on day two of the tournament, sliding down to 82nd on the leaderboard.
Denver returns to action on Oct. 9 for its second annual Paintbrush Invitational in Parker, Colo.
