DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team enters the 2023 NCAA Tournament as the No. 4 team in the country following Selection Sunday and the releasing of the two national polls on Monday.
Denver ranks fourth in both the latest the latest USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine rankings after falling 1-0 to Colorado College last Thursday in the NCHC Frozen Faceoff semifinals at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Pioneers were also No. 4 in the final Pairwise Ranking and is the No. 4 national seed for the 2023 national tournament.
DU has been ranked inside the top five all season long.
The Pioneers are the No. 1 seed in the Northeast Regional in Manchester, New Hampshire, which also features No. 2 Boston College, No. 3 Western Michigan and No. 4 Cornell.
The NCHC has five schools in the USCHO.com poll, tied for the most among all conferences (Big Ten). St. Cloud State (6/6), Western Michigan (9/11), North Dakota (17/16) and Omaha (20/NR) are also ranked in at least one poll, while Colorado College received votes in the USCHO.com ranking.
Denver will play No. 4 seed Cornell, which ranks No. 12 nationally, in the regional semifinals on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. MT. The game will be televised on ESPN News.
About the USCHO.com Poll: The rankings are compiled weekly and consists of 50 voters, including coaches and media professionals from across the country.
About the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll: The rankings are conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey.
