WHISTLER, British Columbia – Four current student-athletes and two alums of University of Denver ski team competed this past week at the Nor-Am Cup Finals in Canada at Whistler Mountain.
Seniors
Simon Fournier and
Eleri Smart and freshman
Mia Hunt each raced in the giant slalom and slalom events, while sophomore
Cooper Cornelius also took part in the technical events in addition to the men's super-G. Alumni
Tristan Lane raced in men's downhill, super-G and GS, and
Jett Seymour competed in super-G and the two technical races.
Lane posted a pair of top-20 results in men's downhill in 17th and 16th place, respectively, last Wednesday and Thursday before coming in 18th in men's super-G on Sunday. Cornelius was 21st in super-G while Seymour placed 32nd in super-G.
In giant slalom, Smart (13th) and Hunt (15th) both came in the top 15, while all four men were inside the top 20. Cornelius led the Pioneer men in ninth, while Fournier was 12th, Lane was 13th and Seymour in 19th.
This year's Nor-Ams concluded on Tuesday with slalom. Smart led the DU women in sixth and Hunt came in 13th. Seymour picked up the win in the men's race, while Fournier posted a top-10 result in seventh.
UP NEXT: The final races of the DU ski team's winter begin this weekend at the U.S. Alpine National Championships. This year's event is in Sun Valley, Idaho, and is set from April 2-5.
