Denver Men’s Soccer Earns West Region Coaching Staff of the Year

Head coach Jamie Franks and the Pioneers’ staff earned the honor for the first time since 2016

DENVER – The University of Denver men's soccer coaching staff has been named the United Soccer Coaches West Region Coaching Staff of the Year, the coaches' association announced on Thursday.

Franks and his staff led the Pioneers through one of the most difficult non-conference schedules in the country, a double-round robin in the third-best league in the country and navigated the Pioneers back to the College Cup for the first time since 2016, finishing the campaign 15-3-5.

Denver earned its highest seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history, receiving the No. 3 seed and earning home wins in the postseason against Gardner-Webb, [14] Indiana and UMass en-route to a trip to Cary. As a team, the Pioneers finished eighth in the country in goals against average and 27th in the country in scoring offense. Denver's 44 goals scored and its 58 assists were both single-season program records.

The second MAC Hermann Finalist, third First Team All-American and second multi-season All-American in program history Sam Bassett led the Pioneers offense this season, co-leading the team in goals, leading the team in points and breaking the single-season record for assists. Bassett heads to St. Louis on January 3 for the MAC Hermann Trophy Banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club.

In addition to the success on the pitch, Denver finished in the top-5 in the country in grade point average for the ninth-straight season, and added two more College Sports Communicators Academic All-Americans to its total when Ronan Wynne and Bassett earned the honor earlier this month.

Season tickets for the 2025 Denver men's soccer season are on sale now, and can be purchased here.
