DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team moved back into the national rankings at No. 71 in the ITA Computerized Rankings, released on Tuesday.
After a bye week, Denver returned to the court with back-to-back 6-1 road wins in Summit League play at Illinois State and Oral Roberts on March 28-30. DU is now 12-6 on the season and has now appeared in the ITA team rankings three times in 2025, last doing so on March 4 at No. 69. Of Denver's six losses on the season, four have come to nationally-ranked opponents including top-50 teams in No. 34 Princeton and No. 42 Boise State. Denver has a win over now-No. 61 BYU – doing so on the road.
Additionally, two Denver student-athletes are also again ranked in singles with senior
Daniel Sancho Arbizu claiming the No. 41 spot and junior
Raffaello Papajcik sitting at No. 125.
Sancho Arbizu stretched his singles win streak to nine – all coming in straight sets at No. 1 singles – with victories against Illinois State and Oral Roberts. He is now 24-5 overall on the year, which included a 15-2 record in dual match play.
Papajcik also won both of his matches last week, putting up two straight-sets victories including a 6-0 6-4 win at ORU in his most recent match. Since returning from injury in late February, he is 4-1 in singles play, winning all four of those matches in two sets and all at the No. 2 singles spot for DU.
Both Sancho Arbizu and Papajcik have appeared in the ITA singles since the end of the 2024 fall season, peaking at No. 24 and No. 43, respectively.
The ITA Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Rankings recognize the top 75 teams (out of 243), 125 singles players and 60 doubles teams at the NCAA Division I level.
The University of Denver men's tennis team returns home for two matches, continuing Summit League play against Omaha on Friday, April 4, and then closing non-conference play against No. 65 New Mexico on Sunday, April 6.
