DENVER – The University of Denver Division of Athletics and Recreation mourns the loss of DU Board of Trustees Member, donor and President and CEO of the Denver Broncos Pat Bowlen, who passed away on Thursday.
Bowlen joined the University of Denver's Board of Trustees in 1987 and served on numerous trustee committees, including chairing Athletic Affairs from 1994-96.
"As a former trustee of the University, Pat Bowlen made a large impact on the DU community," Director of Sports Performance
Matt Shaw said. "His generosity improved resources internally and made an impact on countless lives. Today, the Pat Bowlen Training Center continues to be a place for athletes to make an impact on their physical development. However, this facility's impact has transcended that. One of the most highly trafficked spaces within the building, it has provided athletes an opportunity to grow their professionalism, dedication, maturity and leadership. We are incredibly thankful to have Pat Bowlen's name on our wall as a constant reminder to the type of person that our student-athletes strive to be daily, leaders within sport and the community."
Bowlen donated $1.5 million towards the $6.3 million Pat Bowlen Training Center, which serves as the 10,000 square foot sports performance facility for the University of Denver's student-athletes.
The University offers its condolences to the Bowlen's friends and family.
