The University of Denver is committed to providing comprehensive support for the well-being of student-athletes. DU's Sport Psychology team is housed in the Health & Counseling Center, which is connected to the Athletic Department for easy access.

Sport Psychology services that are provided include: individual and group counseling/therapy, as well as individual and group mental skills training for performance enhancement. The Sport Psychology team also provides psychological assessment for academic difficulties and learning differences, and consultations and trainings on a variety of psychological health topics to Athletics staff and coaches.

The mission of the Sport Psychology team is to promote collective and individual thriving amongst student-athletes as people with extraordinary endeavors. We aim to address the full spectrum of psychological health and wellness for student-athletes:

Any DU student-athlete or coach can request team/group services at any time. 
Examples of topic/skills requests include: leadership, team cohesion, quality practice, focus in training and competition, communication, composure, team culture/values, motivation, relaxation/recovery/sleep

Individual mental skills training
  • Learn skills to enhance performance, including confidence, focus/concentration, composure, motivation, goal setting, self-talk/communication, mental rehearsal/visualization, (pre)performance routines, mental recovery skills
Team/group consultations
  • These consultations involve teaching mental skills to teams and groups within teams (such as team captains, offense, defense, etc.) and assisting in their application within specific team demands and cultures. Examples include team cohesion/dynamics, leadership skills, communication, confidence, performance routines, focus in training and competition, effective self-talk, relaxation/recovery/sleep
