Men's Swimming Wins, Women Second at Big Cat Relays

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 15) - The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving teams posted a pair of strong performances on Saturday at the Colorado College Big Cat Relays, with the men breezing to the team title and the women finishing a close second.

The men totaled 384 points to easily outdistance Colorado School of Mines (312), Colorado College (258) and the CU club team (152). The women were barely edged by Northern Colorado, who had beaten the Pioneers in a dual meet on Friday in Denver. UNC finished with 366 points, followed by Denver (362), CSM (268), the host Tigers (240) and the CU club team (140).

The men won all eight of their relays to dominate the meet, while the women won four events. In addition, the Pioneers won an mixed 200-yard medley exhibition relay and finished second to CSM in the mixed 200 freestyle exhibition relay.

In the only individual events of the day, sophomore David Decker (Denver, Colo. / Regis Jesuit HS) was second on the 1-meter springboard for the highest men's finish for the Pioneers, while sophomore Carrie Ellis (Denver, Colo. / East HS) earned Denver's highest women's finish with a sixth-place showing.

The Pioneers' next competition is also in Colorado Springs, where the men will swim against the Air Force Academy and the women will face the Falcons and New Mexico State this Friday, Jan. 21. Denver's next home meet is the next day on Jan. 22, when the Pioneers host Colorado School of Mines and Metro State.
