Women's Golf Inks Top Recruit

DENVER (Nov. 28) - The University of Denver women's golf team signed its lone recruit of the early fall signing period, head coach Sammie Chergo announced Nov. 28.

The Pioneers announced the signing of Tessa Gillam, a senior at Cherry Creek High School in Englewood, Colo. Gillam had a tremendous junior summer season, highlighted by a second-place finish at the AJGA Osso tournament held at Oak Tree Golf Course. She shot 77-74-72 for a total of 223 to finish in second place. She will be among the favorites to take medallist honors at the Colorado High School Championships this spring.

"Tessa is one of the best ball strikers in her recruiting class," Chergo said. "We are excited with her length and her desire to compete at the highest level of collegiate golf.

"Tessa will make an immediate impact with our program not only does she excel on the golf course she is a honor student with the ablilty to balance both athletics and academics."

The women resume their season in the spring of 2001.
