VILLANOVA, Pa. (Feb. 27) -- The University of Denver men's lacrosse team reeled off eight unanswered goals over a 19-plus minute stretch en route to a 13-7 win over host Villanova Sunday afternoon. The win gives the Pioneers their first 2-0 start since the 1990 season.
Villanova (0-1) took a 3-1 lead with 3:48 left in the first period on a goal by Andrew Bogle, then watched as the Pioneers took a 9-3 lead thanks to an eight-goal outburst started by sophomore Chad Wittman at 2:54 of the first period and ended by a Travis Taylor tally at 13:33 of the third quarter. The Wildcats narrowed the Pioneer lead to 11-7 with 14:15 left in regulation before Denver's Eric Tessier and McAdory Lipscomb sealed the victory with insurance goals.
Denver's Mike Law led all scorers with two goals and three assists while Lipscomb recorded his second straight three-goal game. Eric Dauer paced Villanova with a pair of markers. Brian Berger posted his second straight quality start by stopping 14 shots.
The Pioneers return to Denver for the first of three straight games at home when they face Brown on Saturday, March 4 in an alumni weekend battle.
