Ohio State Men's Lacrosse Overcomes Denver, 9-8

COLUMBUS, Ohio (April 21) - John Cummings scored four goals, including the game-winner with 39 seconds to play, to lead the Ohio State men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 victory over Denver at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Friday. The Buckeyes move to 5-6 on the season and 1-2 in the Great Western Lacrosse League, while Denver falls to 8-4 on the season and 0-2 in the conference.

Denver took an early 1-0 lead on a sophomore Chad Wittman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) goal at the 10-minute mark. The Buckeyes answered right back with a goal from Lange. The Pioneers scored three unanswered goals - including the first of four from junior Mike Law (Englewood, Colo.) - for a 4-1 lead at the 12-minute mark of the second quarter. The Buckeyes then took control, scoring five of the next six goals. At the half the score was tied 5-5.

The Buckeyes took the lead at the 10:46 mark in the third quarter on a Cummings goal, but Denver regained the lead on goals from Law and freshman Clark Woodard (Englewood, Colo.). Ohio State tied the game again with another Cummings goal, then pulled ahead when Cummings scored with 39 seconds remaining.

Denver was led by Law who scored four goals and dished out two assists.

Buckeye goalkeeper Mike Abeles went the distance and finished with 11 saves. Junior Brian Berger (Phoenix, Md.) played all 60 minutes for the Pioneers and made seven stops.

The Pioneers return to action at 10 a.m. Sunday, when they play at Butler in another GWLL game.
