LAKESIDE, Calif. - The University of Denver men's golf team is in 12th place following the first two rounds of play today at the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State University. The Pioneers shot a 5-over par 581 and trail leader San Diego State by 30 strokes heading to tomorrow's final round. The host Aztecs blistered the par-72 Barona Creek Golf Club with a 25-under par score of 551 to lead second place Nevada by three strokes.

Leading the way for Denver was junior Tommy Hart (Englewood, Colo.) who shot 73-70-143 (1-under par) to finish in a tie for 35th place. Hart was the lone Pioneer to finish the opening 36 holes under par and is one stroke better than teammates Erik Billinger (Westminster, Colo.) and Tony Giarratano (Castle Rock, Colo.), who both shot even-par 144 and are tied for 41st with 18 holes to play. Giarratano shot a second round 67 (5-under par) that was the best round of the day by a Denver golfer.

Rounding out the scoring for Denver was senior John Hulwick (Littleton, Colo.) who shot 73-77-150 (6-over par) and is tied 65th and freshman Barrett Jarosch (Edmonton, Alberta), who shot 78-77-155 (11-over par) and is tied for 76th.

The Pioneers wrap up the fall season tomorrow with the final round of the Aztec Invitational with a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m.
