The University of Denver women's soccer team continued its dominance with a convincing 4-0 victory over Texas Tech in the final game of the Four Points Sheraton Shootout Sunday afternoon at R.P. Fuller Stadium.
The Pioneers attacked early with a tally by senior forward Molly George (Santa Fe, N.M.), who beat Tech keeper Brittney Peese one-on-one for her first goal of the season. The break away was set up by junior midfielder Camile Flenniken (Northglenn, Colo.) who hit George, in stride, in the Red Raider zone.
Denver scored again less than a minute later, when junior forward Katie Antongiovanni (Bakersfield, Calif.) ender her scoreless streak with her first goal of the season by tapping a cross pass from junior midfielder Kristen Warren (Littleton, Colo.) into the back of the net.
Antongiovanni finished off the scoring in the first stanza with her second goal of the day on a one-timer that was set up by a feed from senior Carrie Ellis (Denver, Colo.).
Denver capped off the victory when sophomore midfielder Mychael Movius (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored an unassisted tally, her second on the year, in the 59th minute.
Junior keeper Erica Izard (Fort Collins, Colo.) was brilliant in net for Denver making four saves and earning her third shutout of the season, 19th of her career. Izard is now tied for fourth on Denver's all-time goalkeeper wins list with 21.
The Pioneers have outscored their opponents 9-5 in their first four games earning a 3-1 record. Their lone loss was to No. 2 UCLA, 5-1 on Sept. 3.
Denver returns to action this Wednesday (Sept. 12) when they travel to Boulder to take on in-state rival Colorado at 4 p.m.
