Izard's 20th Shutout Leads Women over UALR

DENVER - Junior goalkeeper Erica Izard (Fort Collins, Colo. / Poudre HS) directed a stifling defense and four different Pioneers scored on the offensive end as the University of Denver cruised to a 5-0 shutout of Arkansas-Little Rock in Sun Belt Conference women's soccer action Friday afternoon at Pioneer Field. Denver (5-2-0, 1-1) posts its first league win of the year, while UALR falls to 0-7-1 and 0-1 in the Sun Belt.

Izard posted her league-leading fourth shutout of the season and the 20th of her three-year career, helping a Pioneer defense that allowed a single UALR shot on goal in each half. Denver, meanwhile, peppered Trojan netminder Jayme Butts for 40 shots.

Junior forward Katie Antongiovanni (Bakersfield, Calif. / Garces Memorial HS / Iowa State) got the Pioneers on board first with an unassisted goal, her third of the season, in the 21st minute. She would add her fourth in the second half - off an assist from sophomore Mychael Movius (Highland Ranch, Colo. / Highlands Ranch HS) - to close the scoring in the 69th minute.

Antongiovanni picked up a fifth point by assisting sophomore midfielder Melissa Behrent (Westminster, Colo. / Standley Lake HS) on the game's second goal.

Senior Molly George (Santa Fe, N.M. / Santa Fe Prep) notched her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 65th minute with a nifty move around a Trojan defender, and sophomore Jenni Harris (Littleton, Colo. / Chatfield HS) scored just before halftime on an assist from junior Camile Flenniken (Northglenn, Colo. / Northglenn HS / Univ. of Wisconsin).

The Pioneers continue their Sun Belt weekend homestand on Sunday at noon against Arkansas State.
