MOBILE, ALA. - Kerri Weaver (Littleton, Colo.) and Katie Antongiovanni (Bakersfield, Calif.) posted goals to lead the18th-ranked University of Denver women's soccer team to a 2-0 road victory over South Alabama in a Sun Belt Conference match on Friday night at The Cage. Denver, winners of nine straight, improve to 11-1-2 overall and remain the only unbeaten team in the SBC with a perfect 6-0 mark. South Alabama falls to 6-7-3, 2-2-1 in league play with its second loss in the last three outings.

The Pioneers struck early in the first half when Weaver finished a corner kick from junior defender Jamie Norwood (Littleton, Colo.) in the seventh minute. The crossing ball deflected off of junior forward Jenni Harris (Littleton, Colo.) in front of the net and rolled loosely through traffic to Weaver, who punched it into the back of the net to record her fifth marker of the year and second in as many games. With the goal, her second game-winner of the season, Weaver moves into a tie for sixth place on Denver's all-time list with six career game-winning goals.

Denver continued to battle the Jaguars in the second half and was rewarded for their efforts late in the game when Antongiovanni sealed the victory in the 71st minute with her team-leading ninth tally of the season. The senior midfielder netted an uncontested goal from inside the box after junior forward Mychael Movius (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) retrieved the ball away from Jaguar goalkeeper Amber Angermeier and found Antongiovanni in front of the net. Antongiovanni chipped the ball into the empty net to put Denver ahead 2-0 and move up the Pioneer record books. She is now in 10th place on Denver's all-time scoring list with 50 career points.

Senior keeper Erica Izard (Fort Collins, Colo.) orchestrated another superb defensive effort to record her career-best ninth straight win and school-record 38th career shutout. Izard also takes over first place on Denver's all-time wins list with her 46th career victory. South Alabama was held to just one shot in the game as Rebecca Kahn's attempt deflected off the left post in the second half.

"A 2-0 win on the road against a good team like this, I'll take it," said head coach Jeff Hooker. "They (South Alabama) gave us trouble all night long, I am just glad we were able to get out of here with a win. South Alabama is a very hard working team and deserves credit for a tough battle tonight. Our players hung in there until the end and definitely earned a well-deserved victory."

The Pioneers will put their 13-game Sun Belt Conference regular season unbeaten streak on the line Sunday (Oct. 20) afternoon against Louisiana-Lafayette at noon.
