Denver Downs Vermont, 12-7

DURHAM, N.C. - The University of Denver men's lacrosse team defeated Vermont, 12-7 on Wednesday afternoon in Durham, N.C. With the win Denver snaps a two-game losing streak and improves to 4-3 on the season, Vermont falls to 1-4 on the season.

The Pioneers potent offense was held to just three goals in the first half and held a one-goal advantage at the break, but reeled off five unanswered tallies in the third frame to pull away for the win. Denver extended its lead in the fourth quarter to earn a 12-7 win over the Cats. Freshman Matt Brown (Burnaby, Conn.) continued his remarkable scoring streak with his seventh consecutive hat trick of the season. Sophomore Jeff Biggs (St. Louis, Mo.) and freshman Erik Swanson (Glenview, Ill.) each added two goals in the win.

Denver out-shot Vermont 37-223, out-hustled ground balls 35-24 and dominated the face-off circle 18-3. Junior netminder Jeff Nunziato (Latham, N.Y.) recorded seven saves on the afternoon to earn his fourth win of the season.

The Pioneers return to action next Saturday (Mar. 30) when they open their Great Western Lacrosse League schedule at home against No. 17 Notre Dame. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. mountain time.
