Pioneer Women Fall to New Mexico State

Denver - The University of Denver women's swimming and diving team lost to New Mexico State University this Friday at the El Pomar Natatorium by a score of 126-169. The Pioneers won five of the 11 events with three athletes providing over a third of the team's final score.
Sophomore Katie Eisenhard (Brownsboro, Ala.) lended the most punch for Denver and took first place in two of her three events. Her first win of the night came in the 100-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 1:01.33. She also left opponents in her wake in the 200-yard backstroke with a meet-best time of 2:13.07. Eisenhard also placed fifth in the 400-yard IM with a time of 5:07.21 and contributed 19 points to the team.
Keeping up with her season-long consistency with two great finishes was freshman Michaela Amereller (Munich, Germany). She clinched first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.18 and locked down second with a season-best time of 52.99 in the 100-yard freestyle. She also captured fourth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:19.28. With her finishes Amereller provided 15 points to the cause.
Sophomore Kitt Watkins (Littleton, Colo.) had another stolid performance on the night as well. She won the 1-meter diving event by amassed 239.55 points and earned second in the 3-meter with 223.43 points. This gave the Pioneers 13 points to add to their total in the meet.
The women will hit the water again when they travel to the University of Northern Colorado on Friday, January 24th (4 p.m.). The Pioneer men's diving team will also be heading to Greeley to face off against the Bears on Sunday, January 19th (noon).
