Pioneers Win Second Straight Match

The University of Denver women's tennis team recorded its second straight victory of the season with a 4-3 win over UC Santa Barbara this afternoon in Phoenix, Ariz.
Freshman Jenny Trettin's (Berlin, Germany) impressive win over Marielle Gruenig at No. 2 singles keyed the win for Denver. Trettin won 6-2, 4-6 and 6-4 in an exciting three-set match. The Pioneers improve to 2-1 overall with the win.
"Our women played really well today," head coach Dana Young said. "Trettin's match at No. 2 was as exciting as it gets."
Freshman Suzanna Maksovic (Helsingborg, Sweden) won at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Andrea Pintar. Sophomore Stephanie Ginsburg (Englewood, Colo.) was victorius at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Leslie Simon. Sophomore Barb Kourim (Dallas, Texas) earned Denver's other point with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lindsey Butterwick.
The Pioneer women return to action tomorrow, Feb. 1 with a match against Grand Canyon in Phoenix, Ariz.
