Denver Finishes Regular-Season Play With 1-0 Loss

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Denver women's soccer team rounded out regular-season play on Sunday, Nov. 2, as they fell to Wyoming 1-0. The loss brings the Pioneers' record to 15-3 (7-1) overall. The Cowgirls boost their record to 10-8 on the season.

Even in the cold and dreary weather, both teams came equally prepared. Freshman goalkeeper Danielle Wiley (Littleton, Colo.) made one save to keep the scored tied 0-0 at the end of the first half.

The Cowgirls struck through the Pioneer defense in the 56th minute of the game. Off a pass from Meghan Racette, Tuva Gulbrandsen scored the winning goal to put Wyoming up 1-0. The rest of the second half remained scoreless as Wiley made another save and Cowgirl goalkeeper Lori Scheider made two saves to give Wyoming the win. Wiley's record goes to 10-2 on the season.

The Pioneers out shot the Cowgirls 8-7 and edged them in corner kicks 8-1.

The Pioneers clinched the No. 1 seed in the 2003 Hardee's Sun Belt Conference Tournament and are were named the conference champions after defeating Florida International on Friday. They will travel to Bowling Green, Ky., to face No. 8 seeded Louisiana-Lafayette at 10 a.m. CT on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
