Swimming and Diving Teams Sweep Quad Meet 6-0

DENVER - The University of Denver men and women's swimming and diving teams amassed 12 first-place finishes in their sweep of Metro State, Colorado School of Mines and South Dakota in El Pomar Natatorium on Nov. 21. The Pioneer men defeated CSM 157-61, Metro State 159-40, and USD 121-106. The Pioneer women defeated CSM 151-73, Metro State 161-34, and USD 125-99. The men boost their dual meet record to 7-6 and the women advance to 9-4.

The Pioneer women opened the meet with a bang, taking first and second place in the 200-yard medley relay with times of 1:53.63 and 1:55.59, respectively. The men followed the women's lead and took third and fourth place in the same event. Success continued for Denver as freshman Alex McNally (Lonetree, Colo.) notched a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:18.45).

On a roll, freshman Harmony Zeller (Arvada, Colo.), sophomore Lauren Miranda (Louisville, Colo.) and junior Katey Dorweiler (Urbandale, Iowa) captured first through third place in 200-yard freestyle. On the men's side, senior John Kolstoe (Fort Collins, Colo.) took top honors in the same event (1:47.02).Dorweiler also clinched first place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.30) and Miranda finished first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:20.84).

For the men, senior Greg Dontchos (Littleton, Colo.) stepped up, finishing in first place in the 50-yard freestyle (21.90). Sophomore Chris Seibert (El Paso, Texas) took first in the 200-yard IM, while teammate freshman James Monaghan (Toronto, Ontario) clinched the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.58).

The women continued to shine as outstanding sophomore Michaela Amereller (Munich, Germany) finished first in the 200-yard IM (2:13.71). Junior Katie Eisenhard (Brownsboro Ala.) swept the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.06) and freshman Katie Conyers (Lakewood, Colo.) proved versatile in the 100-yard freestyle (55.20).

The Pioneers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, November 21, 2003 when they host Utah. Diving will begin at 11:15 am MT and the first swim event is scheduled to start at noon MT.
