Ormond Paces Pioneers in Day Two of NCAA Championships

Dartmouth Skiway, N.H. - - The University of Denver ski team kicked off alpine action today with the men and women each placing a skier in the top-10 of the giant slalom events. The Pioneers moved up four places in the team standings to fifth (236.5) and now sit 33 points behind fourth place Colorado (263.5).

Denver's French connection delivered in day two, with sophomore Sophie Ormond (Grand-Bornand, France) carving up a fourth place finish with a time of 2:10.52 in the women's giant slalom. The two underclassmen on the squad delivered solid finishes as well, with freshman Sophia Baeck (Saltsjoebaden, Sweden) coming in 19th with 2:12.99 on the clock and sophomore Barbara Knor (Unhausen, Austria) earning 22 with a time of 2:14.25.

Local junior Chris Berg (Dillon, Colo.) led the team in the ultra-competitive men's giant slalom by finishing .02 seconds behind Dartmouth's Patrick Biggs for seventh with a time of 2:00.48. Also earning a top-20 time was sophomore Dominik Schweiger (Waengle, Austria) who took 19 with a time of 2:02.82.

The NCAA Skiing Championships will shift back to nordic action tomorrow with the men and women competing in the classical events. The women's 15K runs from 7-8:15 a.m. (MST) and the men compete in the 20K from 8:30-9:15 a.m.
