Pioneers' Championship Streak Ends at Three

Dartmouth Skiway, N.H. - - Despite pulling within 29 points of second place, the University of Denver ski team could not overcome early setbacks in pursuit of its fourth-straight national title. The Pioneers accumulated 522.5 points, 11 behind fourth place New Mexico. Utah wins its first championship since 1997 with a staggering 682 points.

Every skier on the women's alpine team finished 14th or better in slalom action today, with sophomore Barbara Knor (Unhausen, Austria) leading Denver with her sixth place finish (1:37.47). Coming in .29 seconds later was sophomore Sophie Ormond (Grand-Bornand, France) who earned 10th with a time of 1:38.06. Freshman Sophia Baeck (Saltsjoebaden, Sweden) closed out the Pioneer scoring with her time of 1:38.77, which was good for 14th.

Sophomore Dominik Schweiger (Waengle, Austria) paced the men's squad in slalom competition and earned 10th place with his time of 1:43.34. Local junior Chris Berg (Dillon, Colo.) came in next for the Pioneers with the 13th-best time of 1:43.88 while sophomore David Lamb (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) earn 25th with a time of 1:54.25.
