Matt Carle, Defenseman (Anchorage, Alaska/River City Lancers)
Carle is currently a member of the River City Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL). The 6-foot, 190-pound defenseman has led the Lancers to an 11-5-1 overall record and second-place mark in the USHL. The highly skilled Carle has played in all 17 games and has registered five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 17 games. Carle has two power-play goals and leads the team with +7.
Prior to his stint in River City, Carle played two years for the U.S. National Team Development Program and helped lead the Under-18 Team to the gold medal at the 2002 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Under-18 Championship in Slovakia. It is the only gold medal won by a U.S. National Team at an IIHF World Championship (excluding Olympics) since 1933. Carle's team posted a 7-1-0 record in a field of 12 international teams, outscoring its opponents 46-10. Matt is the son of Karen and Robert Carle.
J.D. Corbin, Forward (Littleton, Colo./U.S. National Under-18 Team)
Corbin, a 5-foot-9 170-pound forward from Littleton, Colo., is in his second season with the U.S. National Team Development Program. He has helped lead the Under-18 Team to an 11-10-1 record this season. Corbin is currently ranked fourth on the team in scoring with six goals and seven assists for 13 points in 22 games. Last season, the speedy Corbin helped lead the Under-17 Team to the gold medal at the World Under-17 Challenge in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Corbin had one goal and five assists in nine international games. He also tallied 13 points on five goals and eight assists and finished the year with one shorthanded goal and two game-winners. J.D. is the son of Kimberly and Michael Corbin.
Glenn Fisher, Goaltender (Edmonton, Alberta/Ft. Saskatchewan)
Fisher, a 6-foot-1, 160-pound netminder played during the 2001-02 season for Ft. Saskatchewan of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He was named AJHL Rookie of the Year and ended the season with a 4.44 goals against average and an .893 saves percentage. Fisher was also a member of Viking Cup - an international tournament featuring the Augustana College (Canada) Vikings and All-Star teams made up of junior hockey leagues from around the world. Fisher earned Viking Cup all-tournament team accolades. He will defer his acceptance to the University for one year and enroll in the fall of 2003.
Michael Handza (Glenshaw, Pa./Pittsburgh Forge)
Handza, a native of Glenshaw, Pa., is a playmaking center who scored 33 points on 12 goals and 21 assists in 40 games for the Pittsburgh Forge of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). The 6-foot-1, 190-pound center played two years for Pittsburgh and helped the team to the U.S. Junior National Championship this past season.
Ryan Helgason, Forward, (Woodbury, Minn./Fairbanks Ice Dogs)
Helgason scored 47 points on 34 goals and 13 assists in 54 games for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the America West Hockey League (AWHL) this past season. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound power forward is a natural goal scorer with a big shot. Helgason capped his only season by being named the AWHL's Rookie of the Year. The Woodbury, Minn., native also earned All-AWHL second team honors.
Jon James (Arnold, Md./Chicago Freeze)
James, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound defenseman from Arnold, Md., played one year for the Chicago Freeze of the NAHL. He is a very active, strong-skating blueliner. James made a great transition from offense to defense in his only year of junior hockey. He scored six points on four goals and two assists in 37 games for the Freeze.
Jeff Rogers (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain H.S.)
Rogers was named first-team all-state and Most Valuable Player after his senior season at Cheyenne Mountain High School this year in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound forward is a hard-working forward who will provide depth for the Pioneers on the redline.
Adrian Veideman, Forward (Sicamous, B.C./Salmon Arm SilverBacks)
Veideman is a talented two-way forward from Sicamous, B.C. The 19-year-old is a member of the Salmon Arm SilverBacks of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Veideman has helped Salmon Arm to a 17-8-1 record by scoring 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points. Veideman was named captain for Salmon this season for his ability to lead on and off the ice and his seven power-play goals are second on the team. Adrian is the son of Eileen and Arnis Veideman.
