Denver Shocks Fans in Upset Win

DENVER - The University of Denver men's soccer team shocked fans as it beat No. 14 Wis.-Milwaukee 1-0, in the Panther Invitational held in Milwaukee, Wis. This was the Pioneers' first win of the season and the Panthers' first loss in seventeen regular season games. With the win, Denver improves to 1-3 on the season.
The game was intense but both teams held their ground. The Panthers out-shot the Pioneers 6-3, in the first half but the defense managed to prevent them from scoring. In the second half, UWM stepped up the pace of the game and created more scoring opportunities. Trent Furtsch and Antou Jallou both drilled the cross bar, narrowly missing a game-winning goal. The teams remained scoreless in the second half as the game went into overtime.
The Pioneers were persistent heading into the extra period. Only 48 seconds into overtime, freshman Mike Seager (Victoria, B.C.) launched a cross to midfield. Junior Alejandro Diaz (Caracas, Venezuela) found the ball in the air and headed it into the net for the game-winner. This goal marks Diaz's first of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lami Harmon (Newark, Del.) made two saves on the day and recorded his first win of the season, boosting his record to 1-1.
The Pioneers will be in action again this weekend at the Panther Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis. Denver will play Cal Poly at 11 a.m. MT.
