Box Score

DENVER - In the second double overtime game of the weekend for the Pioneers, senior Maggie Kirchhoff's (Redondo Beach, Calif.) game-winning goal in the 106th minute propelled the University of Denver women's soccer team over Sun Belt Conference foe Western Kentucky, 2-1.

The Pioneers came out in the first half determined to get the win at home and avenge Friday's heartbreaking loss against Middle Tennessee. Lleane Grimditch (Boulder, Colo.) scored the first goal late in the first half when freshman Taryn Hemmings (Greeley, Colo.) took the ball down the right side crossing it to Grimditch about 10 yards in front of the goal. Grimditch then blasted it past Western Kentucky keeper Meredith Goodson on the left side.

The Lady Toppers answered the Pioneers goal early in the second half in the 51st minute when Jenna Silverberg had the ball in the middle; she took a couple dribbles and drilled it over the head of Denver keeper Danielle Wiley (Littleton, Colo.).

With no scoring for the rest of the second half the game went into the second "golden goal" overtime of the weekend for the Pioneers. It was not until the second overtime the Pioneers ended the game and handed the Lady Toppers its third conference loss of the season. Kirchhoff scored the game-winner in the 106th minute from sophomore Jenna Billingsley's corner kick. This goal was Kirchhoff's fourth of the season.

"In the first half, we got things done and then overcame our second half lapse," said head coach Jeff Hooker. "We got the overtime win and hopefully this will put us back on the winning track."

The Pioneers end the weekend, 1-1 and improve their record to 5-9-2, 3-2 and return to action Friday, Oct. 22 in Mobile, Ala., against South Alabama.
