The University of Denver women's soccer team ended South Alabama's nine-game winning streak this evening with a 1-0 shutout in Mobile, Ala. Sophomore Lleane Grimditch (Boulder, Colo.) scored the lone goal for the Pioneers.
After a first half of no scoring, Denver put the ball in the net in the 81st minute when sophomore Jenna Billingsley (Littleton, Colo.) served the ball to Grimditch who blasted it past South Alabama keeper Amber Angermeier from 10 yards out to the left corner. This is Grimditch's fourth goal of the season. She now leads the team in points with 12. Billingsley's assist is her second assist of the season increasing her point total to six.
Denver out shot the Jaguars, 14-7, and allowed them to only two shots on goal. Sophomore Danielle Wiley (Littleton, Colo.) recorded her fifth shutout of the season and made two saves the entire game.
"I thought we played well," said head coach Jeff Hooker. "Overall, we did what we wanted to do and got a shutout on the road."
The Pioneers improve their record to 6-9-2, 4-2, and are back in action on Sunday against Louisiana-Lafayette in Lake Charles, La. at Noon MT.
