Arkansas State Upsets Denver, 2-1

JONESBORO, Ark. - In a heartbreaking loss, preseason conference favorite Denver was upset by Arkansas State, 2-1. Freshman Jenna Billingsley (Littleton, Colo.) scored her first career goal and the lone goal for the Pioneers.

Billingsley knocked in the first goal in the 31st minute off a corner kick from Lleane Grimditch (Boulder, Colo.). The Indians evened the score in the 32nd minute when Lyndsie Stephens put the ball past Pioneer goalkeeper Danielle Wiley (Littleton, Colo.).

Stephanie Ray scored the game winning goal in the 74th minute for the Indians, putting them ahead 2-1.

Despite outshooting the Indians 4-2 and taking 10 corner kicks to Arkansas State's two, the Pioneers still could not finish off a win. Denver is now 3-8-1 and 1-1 in the SBC begin a four game homestand on Friday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. when they square off against Northern Arizona. They will face conference rival North Texas on Sunday at noon.
