The University of Denver dropped a 4-3 decision to New Orleans in Sun Belt Conference (SBC) men's tennis action on Saturday night. The Privateers won the doubles point after two tiebreakers and captured three singles victories for the match win. Denver falls to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in the SBC.
"We have prided ourselves on winning the doubles point and I am surprised that we didn't get it done today," head coach Geoff Young said. "Not getting the doubles point cost us this match."
Sophomores Nejc Smole (Ljubljana, Slovenia), Viktor Zetterholm (Stockholm, Sweden) and Niki Popovic (Ljubljana, Slovenia) captured singles wins for Denver. Smole improved his singles record to 7-1, while Zetterholm improved to 3-5 and Popovic 5-3.
Smole and Zetterholm won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, but UNO won 9-8 at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
