The University of Denver skiers claimed their second title in as many weeks, winning the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association NCAA Regional Meet today at Crested Butte, Colo. Denver claimed the victory with 570 points, easily outdistancing runner-up New Mexico, which closed with 510 points. It was battle for third, with defending NCAA champion Utah emerging with 459 points to edge Alaska-Anchorage (457) and Colorado (449).
Dominik Schweiger (Wangle, Austria) won his fourth slalom title (fifth race) of the season with a two-run time of 1:11.05, beating Nevada's Michal Rajcan who was second in 1:11.34. Sean Higgins (Sun Valley, Idaho) was Denver's second skier, finishing ninth, and Lars Ola Kjos (Olso, Norway) was Denver's third finisher at 10th overall. David Lamb (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) was 13th.
Sophie Ormond (Thones, France) won the shortened women's GS, with a run of 1:16.82, edging Whitman's Rachel Walker. Barbara Knor (Umhausen, Austria) was third, and Pia Rivelsrud (Aalesund, Norway) was 14th.
The Denver men's nordic squad finished second with 76 points in the classic race, led by Erlend Hoff (Harstad, Norway) who was third overall. Hoff was just 10 seconds behind winner Dybendal Henning of Utah. Martin Bartnes (Steinkjer, Norway) finished fifth, and Amund Hansen (Arnes, Norway) was 13th. Bartnes was three seconds behind Hoff and 11 seconds off the winning pace.
Karin Camenisch (Klosters, Switzerland) led Denver in the women's classic event with a third-place finish. Tara Hamilton (Anchorage, Alaska) was second for the Pioneers and Courtney Dauwalter (Edina, Minn.) was the third skier.
Denver appears in fine form heading into the NCAA Championship Meet March 10-13 in Nevada.
