Denver Shuts Out NAU

DENVER - The No. 44 University of Denver women's tennis team brought Northern Arizona's six-match winning streak to a sudden end this afternoon with a 7-0 sweep of singles and doubles at the Stapleton Tennis Pavilion. The Pioneers extended their winning streak to 11 matches and improved their record to 14-1 on the season. Today's win gave Denver their third consecutive sweep and ninth of the season.
"We had a great showing of fans and parents and the team did an excellent job of handling the added pressure," said head coach Dana Young. "They competed well."
Sophomores Suzana Maksovic (Helsingborg, Sweden) and Jenny Trettin (Berlin, Germany), junior Barbara Kourim (Dallas, Texas) and freshman Rachel Sackmaster (Alpharetta, Ga.) each won their respective singles matches for their third consecutive sweep of singles. Junior Yanick Dullens (Susteren, Netherlands) also won by default at the No. 1 position.
Doubles team Trettin and Kourim defeated Northern Arizona's Ashley Dille and Christina Klokinis, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles. Sackmaster also teamed with freshman Marisa Mechem (Fredericksburg, Texas) for an 8-4 victory over NAU's Karen Kmiec and Julie Schmandt at No. 3 doubles. 37th-ranked doubles team Dullens and Maksovic earned their match by default.
Women's tennis continues their five-match homestand when they host Montana at the Stapleton Tennis Pavilion Sunday (April 4). The match starts at 1 p.m. MT.
