DENVER - On an evening when the University of Denver men and women's swimming and diving team honored its six seniors, the Pioneers defeated the Colorado School of Mines 141-94 and 147-79, respectively tonight in El Pomar Natatorium.

"We had a great meet tonight," said head coach Jim Henry. "I think we are in a great position at this time of the year and ready to rest before the conference championships. Hats off to our seniors for all of their hard work and dedication."

The Pioneers started the meet with a first-place finish by both the men and women in the 400-yard medley relay. The women's A relay team of senior Katie Eisenhard (Brownsboro, Ala.), junior Lauren Miranda (Louisville, Colo.), freshman Caroline Carson (Midland, Texas) and freshman Kelsey Totura (Castle Rock, Colo.) won the event title with a time of 4:00.18. The men's A relay team of sophomore Milos Marjanovic (Toronto, Ontario), junior Chris Seibert (El Paso, Texas), and sophomores Michael Peterson (Ames, Iowa) and Craig Jollands (Hillcrest South Africa) won it for the men with a time of 3:30.95. The men's B relay team finished merely seven-hundredths of a second behind in second place.

In the 1650-yard freestyle Nathan West (Englewood, Colo.) broke the El Pomar Natatorium pool record with a time of 16:14.79 and later claimed a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Sophomore Harmony Zeller (Arvada, Colo.) captured top honors for the women in the 1650-yard free (17:35.25) as well.

In the sprint freestyle events, the Pioneers dominated with Lauren Bortnowski (Houston, Texas) and Daniel Monsivais (El Paso, Texas) winning the 50-yard freestyle with times of 25.12 and 21.53, respectively. Jollands claimed top honors in both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle with times of 48.55 and 1:46.41, respectively. Miranda added a win in the 100-yard freestyle for the women with a time of 53.98.

Marjanovic won his first race of the season in the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.35).

Senior Katey Dorweiler (Urbandale, Iowa) recorded a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.79), while junior Brian Flaherty (Granite Bay, Calif.) captured the 500-yard freestyle for the men (4:51.94). Dorweiler added a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.78).

Senior Nate Chapman (St. Louis, Mo.) won the 100-yard butterfly (52.61) for the men and junior Christy Breen (Fairport, N.Y.) also took top honors in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.92) for the women.

Tessa O'Connell (Denver, Colo.) won the 400-yard individual medley (4:44.83) and recorded the top-time for the women in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.67). Sophomore Derek Shaw (Centennial, Colo.) recorded the top time for the men in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.38.

The Pioneers capped off the evening and recorded top times in both the men and women's 200-yard freestyle relay with times of 1:24.26 and 1:39.59, respectively.

Freshman diver Holly Watson (Sugar Land, Texas) swept the diving events and won both the 1-meter board and 3-meter board. Watson scored 230.25 points on the 3-meter board and a career-high 243.33 points on the 1-meter board. On the men's side, freshman diver Wolf Audet (Madison, Conn.) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards with scores of 194.78 and 208.35, respectively.

The Pioneers will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 29 when they travel to Colorado Springs to face Colorado College at 10 a.m.
