Box Score

DENVER-The University of Denver women's soccer team kept its conference unbeaten streak alive with a 5-0 win over Arkansas-Little Rock this afternoon at Pioneer Field. Freshmen Jessica Keller (Arvada, Colo.), Emily Hines (Albuquerque N.M.), Katie Oates (Littleton, Colo.) and redshirt freshman Sarah Martinez (Golden, Colo.) all recorded their first goals of the season, while Jenna Billingsley (Littleton, Colo.) put in her third goal of the season. Goalkeepers, Dani Wiley (Littleton, Colo.) and Cadie Crean (Wethersfield, Conn.) combined for the shutout. DU improves to 7-5-2 (4-0-1 SBC) on the season, while Arkansas-Little Rock falls to 2-12-1 (1-5-0 SBC).

"Obviously with five goals we played a very good game," head coach Jeff Hooker said. " I was pleased with the balanced attack that we had with everyone getting involved in the offense. In the second half we wanted to continue to move the ball around and we did a great job of that, which kept the game at our pace."

The Pioneers got on the board early scoring three goals in the first half. Junior Laura Mann (Ft. Collins, Colo.) connected with Keller, who hit a shot from 15 yards out, in the tenth minute, to give DU the early, 1-0 lead.

Denver continued to pressure the Trojans throughout the half and notched another goal in the 35th minute. Keller and Mann put together a passing combination that culminated in a Pioneer goal that Hines blasted through the left side. Minutes later senior Carlynn McCallum (Denver, Colo.) hooked up with Martinez who slipped the ball past UALR goalkeeper, Marsha Stewart for the score, giving Denver a 3-0 lead heading into the locker room.

The Pioneers offense wore down the Trojans in the second half by adding two more scores. Billingsley took advantage of a free kick outside the box and lofted a shot into the upper corner, past Stewart's reach for her third goal of the season and Jamie Dierberger (Littleton, Colo.) connected with Oates for a score in the 69th minute.

DU outshot the Trojans, 21-1 with nearly half of their shots landing on net, while the Trojans only recorded one shot the entire match.

Denver is next in action Sunday, Oct. 16 when they take on the Arkansas State Indians in an 11 a.m. match. Sunday also marks the final home game for Pioneer seniors Carlynn McCallum (Denver, Colo.) and Ashley Donnell (Albuquerque N.M.). They will be honored with a pre-game ceremony.
