Haave Inducted Into Tennessee Lady Vol Hall of Fame

Oct. 6, 2005

University of Denver women's basketball assistant Tanya Haave was inducted into the University of Tennessee Lady Vol Hall of Fame Saturday. Haave was one of two former UT women's basketball players to make up Class of 2005. Tennessee also honored a swimmer, golfer and distance runner.

Still considered one of the best women's basketball players from the state of Colorado, Haave went on to an illustrious career at the University of Tennessee from 1980-1984 under the direction of legendary head coach Pam Summitt, who stands alone as the NCAA's most winningest coach with 882 victories.

During her time at Tennessee, Haave led the Vols to three NCAA Final Four appearances and two national championship games in 1981 and 1984. As a Vol, Haave was a 1983 Kodak All-American, as well as a two-time All-SEC and NCAA All-Regional team member in 1983 and 1984.

In the Tennessee record books, Haave continues to set the standard 21 years after her playing days. Haave is a member of the Tennessee 1,000 career point club with 1,771 points, ranking seventh in all-time scoring. Haave is also tied for second for most points scored in a single game with 43 and ranks fourth in career free throw percentage with .816 (279-342).

During her career at UT, Haave also represented the U.S. as a member of the Junior Olympic Team in 1981 and a national team member in 1982.

DU head coach Pam Tanner is thrilled to have Haave as a member of the Pioneer coaching staff and is excited for the opportunity to work together with Hall of Fame Inductee.

"Having coached at UT, I am fully aware of the rich tradition of excellence that surrounds Tennessee women's basketball," Tanner commented. "This is a tremendous honor for Tanya and it truly speaks to her knowledge of the game as a player. I am so grateful to have her on my staff and I am excited for the opportunity that our players have to learn from her."
