DENVER - Stephanie Sherlock, the top junior girl golfer in Canada, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Denver and play golf beginning with the fall 2006 season, head coach Sammie Chergo announced today.
Sherlock hails from Barrie, Ontario and is the highest ranked junior player in Canada and placed third at both the 2005 Canadian Women's Championship (all golfers) and the 2005 Canadian Junior Girls Championship last summer. She is ranked No. 23 in the class of 2006 by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard and was recently named to the 2006 Canadian Women's National team, the highest honor for female golfers in Canada.
"Stephanie is a not only the best junior player in her country, she is a good student and demonstrates a passion for competitive golf," head coach Sammie Chergo said. "She has a strong resume of national golf experience and an athletic background. I am thrilled to have her joining the Denver Golf family."
Sherlock will join a Denver squad that has won back-to-back Sun Belt Conference Championships and has qualified for NCAA Regionals in four consecutive seasons. The Pioneers are coming off the most successful fall season in school history, winning a pair of tournaments and finishing the season ranked No. 41 by Golfweek.
