No. 50 Pioneer Women Squeak by UC Irvine, 4-3

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 50 University of Denver women's tennis team defeated UC Irvine, 4-3, in a four and one half hour match this afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium. The Pioneers improve to 9-2.
The win came down to the No. 2 singles match and Suzana Maksovic (Helsingborg, Sweden) prevailed defeating UC Irvine's Izabela Mijic in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
"Suzie really came out with a big win for us today," said head coach Dana Young. "She played a tough opponent and really fought for the win. As the season goes on she continues to play better and better."
The Pioneers won three of six singles matches as Denver squeaked by with the victory. Along with Maksovic's win at No. 2 singles, Barbara Kourim (Dallas, Texas) won at No. 3 singles and Rachel Sackmaster (Alpharette, Ga.) won at No. 5 singles.
The Pioneers won two of three doubles matches to win the doubles point. No. 17 Dullens and Maksovic defeated Bentzer and Agababian, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles and Sackmaster and Mechem defeated Jayme Hu and Lisa Shih, 8-6, at No. 3 singles.
Denver will return to action on Friday, March 18 at Pepperdine.
