Pioneer Profile 10 Questions with Heather Huffaker
One of Denver's most talented gymnasts, this week's profile became the school's first gymnast to ever compete at NCAA Nationals as an individual all-arounder in back-to-back seasons. Though she finished 20th, she led the Pioneers all season long and finished second on the Pioneers with 16 event titles. In February, she was featured in Sports Illustrated as one of the athletes in "Faces in the Crowd". A sophomore from DeSoto, Texas, Heather Huffaker will be back in 2006 hoping to guide her team back to Nationals.

- If you could be one superstar athlete in any sport, who would you be? Why?
I would probably say Mia Hamm, because she was so dedicated to her sport. She also knows the feeling of winning the Olympics and winning national championships in college, she got the best of both worlds.
- If you could be on one of the reality television shows, which one would it be? Why?
Probably Fear Factor because a lot of the things they do look fun, but I know I couldn't deal with eating all the nasty stuff, so I really don't know!
- If you could play another collegiate sport, which one would you play? Why?
I would probably say either softball or volleyball. Softball because I played it when I was younger, but volleyball because I want to know what its like to be tall!!
- If you had to say today what you will be doing five years from now, what would it be? Why?
I would definitely be happy, with a steady job that I like, and settling down with the man of my dreams... he is out there somewhere, I know it!
- What would you name your first-born child? Why?
If it was a boy... Kaleb Michael. I love that name for some reason, I always have! I have no clue what I would name a girl.
- If you were featured on the front of a magazine, what magazine would it be? Why?
Sports Illustrated for helping my team win nationals!!!!
- If you were stranded on a deserted island and had three things with you other than the clothes on your back, what are they? Why?
Why? Someone to spend my time with, internet so I could stay connected with the world, and food. You always have to have food!
- How would your teammates describe your style of play?
Definitely a perfectionist who gets frustrated really easy, and is very determined and competitive.
- What was your favorite cartoon as a kid? Why?
Garfield, I'm not real sure why but I remember watching it all the time.
- What is your favorite number? Why?
My favorite number is 5 because it was my number in softball when I was little.
