Pioneer Profile with Zack Kobilca

This week's Pioneer Profile is senior back Zack Kobilca (Aurora, Colo.) of the men's soccer team. Zack is beginning his second season as a member of DU's soccer team. He started all 18 games last season, scoring one goal. He has already scored once this season as well. Before coming to Denver in 2004, Kobilca started every game during his two-year career at Campbell University, serving as captain in 2003.

1. If you could be one superstar athlete in any sport, who would you be? Why?

   Lance Armstrong because he overcame an enormous obstacle in his life and came back when all odds were against him. He proved not only to himself but to the rest of the world that he was the best cyclist in the world seven times.

2. If you could be on one of the reality television shows, which one would it be? Why?

   American Idol because I would like to share my vocal talents to the world.

3. If you could play another collegiate sport, which one would you play? Why?

   Lacrosse because I like physical sports and used to play it.

4. If you had to say today what you will be doing five years from now, what would it be? Why?

   Either playing professional soccer (hopefully somewhere in Europe) or working in a large, successful commercial real estate company in the U.S.

5. What would you name your first-born child? Why?

   I would name my first-born child "Larry" after my wonderful father who has been a mentor to me throughout my life.

6. If you were featured on the front of a magazine, what magazine would it be? Why?

   Fortune magazine because I hope to have great success in whatever career path I pursue.

7. If you were stranded on a deserted island and had three things with you other than the clothes on your back, what are they? Why?

   An unlimited supply of Gatorade (preferably orange) because it is my favorite thirst quencher; a super-model to keep me company; and a rifle to hunt.

8. How would your teammates describe your style of play?

   My teammates would describe my play as aggressive, focused and competitive.

9. What was your favorite cartoon as a kid? Why?

   Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles because they are rough, tough, fighting machines and love pizza.

10. What is your favorite number? Why?

    My favorite number is No. 9. I have played many sports and it has always been No. 9 because many great athletes wear it.
