Provo, Utah - The University of Denver women's soccer team dropped its first road contest of the season, 2-0 to Brigham Young University. With the loss the Pioneers fall to 1-2-1 on the season.
In the first half both teams struggled to find the back of the net. BYU had the best opportunity of the half in the seventh minute of the game when Cougar forward Jamie Beck hit a shot that skimmed over the crossbar. Denver battled with the physical Cougars but went into halftime down, 1-0.
The Pioneers picked up their intensity in the second half but couldn't manage to find the back of the net. Pioneer's Jenna Billingsley (Littleton, Colo.) and Sarah Martinez (Golden, Colo.) recorded shots but neither found their way into the net. Denver goalkeeper Dani Wiley (Littleton, Colo.) made nine saves in the match.
"This wasn't one of our best performances," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "We need to learn form the mistakes that we made tonight, put them behind us and get ready to take on Utah."
The Pioneers continue their Utah road trip on Sunday Sept., 11 when they head to Salt Lake City to take on No. 21 Utah. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. (MT)
