MOBILE, Ala. - Led once again by junior Taryn Hemmings (Greeley, Colo.), the University of Denver women's soccer team won its fifth consecutive game on Friday by beating South Alabama 4-1 in Mobile, Ala.
The Pioneers found themselves down 1-0 in after a penalty kick goal by Michelle Leppert of South Alabama in the 16th minute. Junior Jenna Billingsley (Littleton, Colo.) tied the game just 10 minutes later and it was 1-1 going into the locker rooms.
The second half was all Denver (9-2-1, 5-0-0) scoring the next three goals, two by Hemmings and another by freshman Lizzy Carlson (Honolulu, Hawaii). Hemmings had a hand in all four goals, assisting on the two goals she didn't score.
Senior Dani Wiley (Littleton, Colo.) earned the win, her fifth consecutive and ninth overall.
Denver is on top of the Sun Belt Conference with a 5-0-0 record. The Pioneers continue their Alabama tour heading to Troy to take on the Trojans Sunday, Oct. 8 at noon.
