OXFORD, Ohio - Junior All-America candidate Ryan Dingle (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) tallied the game-winning goal and added an assist, and goaltender Glenn Fisher (Edmonton, Alberta) stopped 24 shots to lead the No. 9 Denver Pioneers to a 3-2 victory over Colgate in the consolation game of the Ice Breaker Invitational this afternoon at Steve Cady Arena. Patrick Mullen (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Chris Butler (St. Louis, Mo.) scored for the second consecutive game as DU outshot Colgate, 31-26, and converted 3-of-9 power play opportunities. The Pioneers responded after last night's 5-2 loss with a better all-around effort and more effective power play to earn the nonconference win.

"We took a step in the right direction this afternoon," head coach George Gwozdecky said. "We got better as the game went along and Glenn gave us a good effort in goal. Our guys were disappointed about their play last night and wanted to quickly redeem themselves with a better effort today."

After a scoreless first period, Colgate scored first when Tyler Burton one-timed a cross-ice pass from David McIntyre at 2:29 of the second period. DU quickly answered on the power play when Butler wristed his second goal of the weekend past goaltender Mark Dekanich at 3:15. DU burned off a two-man Colgate advantage moments later, but a goal by Adrian Veideman (Sicamous, British Columbia) on a DU 5-on-3 advantage was waved off because the goal was off its moorings. Dingle's power-play goal counted at 10:12 when banged in a rebound off a shot by Brock Trotter (Brandon, Manitoba). Mullen redirected a power-play shot by Keith Seabrook (Delta, British Columbia) at 18:52 for give DU a 3-1 leading heading to the third period.

Colgate made it a 3-2 game at 16:40 of the third period when Burton scored his second goal of the game. The goal counted despite an apparent Colgate player blocking the view of Fisher while skating in the crease. Colgate pulled goaltender Dekanich (28 saves) for the final 52 seconds, but did not score.

DU opens WCHA play at St. Cloud State on Oct. 13-14. Puck drop is set for 6:07 p.m. MT both nights.
