DENVER - Freshman Brad Richardson (Langley, B.C.) scored a game-high four goals and teammates Todd Ruport (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Geoff Snider (Calgary, Alberta) added two assists each as the No. 15 ranked Denver Pioneers defeated Colgate, 14-5 this afternoon in Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Jeb Hollingsworth (Darien, Conn.) recorded eight saves in 49:32 minutes of action while freshman Austin Konkel (Denver, Colo.) stymied five shots in 10:28 minutes of action. The Pioneers improve to 3-1 (0-0 GWLL) on the season while the Red Raiders fall to 2-1 (0-0 Patriot League). With the win the Pioneers improve to 3-0 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium this season.

"We had a good game today," head coach Jamie Munro said. "Jeb had a great game and we had some guys really step up for us on both the offensive and defensive side of the field. It was a total team effort."

The Pioneers started the game quickly when senior Adam Goodwin (Columbus, Ohio) tallied an unassisted goal just two minutes into the first period. Goodwin's goal was the first of four unanswered Pioneer goals by Joe Murray (Denver, Colo.), Brandon Barcus (Dublin, Ohio) and Michael Goltra (Washington, N.C.) as the Pioneers opened up an early 4-0 lead. The Raiders got on the board with just over five minutes left in the period with a Rob Ryan goal. Colgate picked up a little momentum heading into the second period as they tallied another quick goal with under a minute left in the period.

Colgate's final goal of the first period gave them a little momentum as they started the second period with a goal by Brandon Corp just a minute into the period to cut the DU lead to 4-3. Ryan Shaugnessey (Columbus, Ohio) answered with a goal at the 11:23 mark, giving DU a two goal lead. Seconds later Snider connected with Richardson for another DU goal that went right underneath Colgate goalkeeper Andrew Jarolimek to extend the DU lead to 6-3. Richardson would score the next two goals to open an 8-3 lead heading into halftime. The Red Raiders fought hard and had several scoring chances but Denver goalkeeper Hollingsworth batted the Raider shots away and made a huge save with just under six minutes left in the period to preserve the DU lead.

The third period featured more of the Pioneers high pressure offense and defense. The Pioneers caused nine Colgate turnovers in the third period and turned three of those turnovers into goals while also picking up 15 groundballs. The Red Raiders managed to score one goal in the third period while the Pioneers tallied scores from Snider, Richardson and Ruport. The Raiders had several chances but the Pioneer offense was too potent as the Pioneers went on to the 14-5 victory.

Denver led the Raiders in every offensive category. DU out-shot Colgate 51-29 and tallied 30 more groundballs than the Red Raiders. Snider was 14-of-23 from the face-off circle in the win.

The Pioneers conclude their four-game home stand March 12 when they welcome Sacred Heart to Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. (MT). The Pioneers take to the road March 25 when they head to Baltimore for a game with Maryland-Baltimore County.
