BERKELEY, Calif. - Senior Tanya Fuchs (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored six goals as the University of Denver women's lacrosse team defeated California, 18-7 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. The Pioneers, who are on a program best seven-game winning streak, improved to 9-2 overall and perfect 3-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while the Bears fall to 4-7, 1-1. DU's nine wins are the most its eight-year history.
Senior Stephanie Greenlees (Lake Forest, Ill.) added four goals and junior Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) tallied two goals and two helpers in the winning effort.
Jocelyn Paul led Cal in scoring with three goals and Liz Reifsnyder had one goal and two assists for the Bears.
DU was ahead, 7-6 with 4:25 remaining in the first half but then exploded to score 11 of the game's next 12 goals to end the game.
Sophomore Becky Childs (Phoenix, Md.) made 12 saves in the victory while Hilary Lynch had 11 stops in the loss.
Up next, the Pioneers travel to Eugene, Ore. for a pair of games against next weekend against Oregon and Stonybrook.
